Home Security Systems: Wireless Or Wired?

Wired or wireless? That’s one of the most common questions homeowners ask when researching home security systems. The answer depends upon the layout of the house, how it is built, the expectations and needs of the homeowner, and how much money the homeowner is willing to spend for the system.

There are several factors to consider in deciding if you want to install a wired or wireless home security systems. If you are building a new home, a wired system may work well, as they are relatively easy to install and cost less than wireless systems. One problem with a hard wired, system is that if your home has already been built, you will need to do a lot of physical work and drilling to install the components.

On the other hand, the wireless home security alarm system doesn’t force you to gouge holes in the wall or to engage in laborious pre-planning. Once yours is set up, it needs less upkeep than a traditional wired arrangement. Typically more advanced than wired security systems, and with additional options such as wireless security cameras, wireless setups create a truly more secure environment.

There are a few drawbacks to wireless home security systems, however. They can cost more than hard wired systems, can be more difficult to install, and depending on your house, may have issues with reception. Not every home setup will cause these problems, however. Like everything else, it depends on your situation.

When all is said and done, your home determines your choice of security system. Can you integrate the system as you build the house? Is money or time a bigger factor? Do you have the experience to do it yourself? What are the consequences to poor security? But no matter what you choose, a home security system will always help keep your family safe.
